4 Rewards of Workplace First Aid training by Steve Brass Director of Training Link to Life™ Seminars Inc.
REWARD NO. 1 FIRST-AID TRAINING IS REQUIRED IN ONTARIO FOR MANY WORKPLACES
In Ontario, any company that pays into the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board is required to have staR trained in first-aid on every shift. Depending on the size of your employee base that determines which level of training you must complete. For shifts with 1-5 staR members the Emergency level first-aid/CPR 1 day program is required. For companies with over 5 employees per shift the STANDARD FIRST AID/CPR 2 day seminar is the one they need. Link to Life™ oRers blended training so star can complete part of the training online before attending a shorter in class skills review.
Certification in first-aid is valid for 3 years and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is recommended annually. We know people forget these skills quite quickly and so an annual refresher is a great investment for the safety and well -being of your staR and clients.
We are proud to train clients like City of Richmond Hill, Toronto Libraries, Ontario Medical Association, many law firms, hotels and daycares.
Each approved training agency under regulation 1101 oRers a unique approach to their teaching methods, bring diRerent training experiences, history and flexibility to your company’s needs. Link to Life is celebrating its 44th year as a WSIB approved agency oRering very interactive, fun and workplace focused training. Our clients love our no lecture zone methods and benefit from the hands-on scenario- based focus of our seminars. We believe the training should be the rehearsal for a medical emergency and the learning process should be fun and relevant.
Some organizations and industries are regulated under federal law and still request our services. Banks and insurance companies for example and many law firms choose Link to Life™ for their training.
Complying with the reg. 1101 workplace requirement keeps you in good standing with the WSIB.
REWARD NO. 2. GREAT TEAM BUILDING DAY
So often organizations oRer dry, boring continuing education programs that are not always relevant to the employee’s role or duties, requiring them to sit and watch videos or listen to someone lecture all day. People learn best when they are engaged, find the material relevant and enjoying the learning process.
Link to Life™ hits all three of those key components of eRective learning. With our blended training courses we provide a flexible way to learn and complete your certification goals.
Bringing your team together to learn how to care for each other in your workplace and taking them out of their normal routine adds a new layer of camaraderie and trust between them.
In this student -centred dynamic presentation we provide fun and partner- based training. StaR get to see a new side of each other and create a stronger team they can rely on in the event of an illness or accident. Both managers and their team members share the value of life-saving skills that one day may be called upon.
REWARD NO. 3- STAH AND CLIENT APPRECIATION
What better act of appreciation from an employer then to oRer their valued employees this life-saving training? Choosing employees from diRerent departments, floors and shifts to learn how to respond to a medical emergency by completing a Link to Life first aid course is a great way of saying thank you to your team. It a unique way of saying we appreciate you.
Having trained personnel on site also sends a message to your customers that you also care about their safety when visiting your premises or when your staR visits them at their location.
Inviting employees to spend a day or two away from their normal duties and oRering a fun and interesting life skills program has added benefits to morale, and strengths bonds between departments. It is also another opportunity to learn about each other in a very diRerent setting.
Another requirement in Ontario workplaces is having a joint health and safety committee with members from both management and labor. This vital training is another bonus to this committee.
4. REWARD NO. 4 – COMMUNITY BENEFITS FROM YOUR TRAINING
Sometimes employees resist having to take first-aid training until they realize the new knowledge and skills will benefit them in their private lives. Having a new toolbox of first -aid understanding goes with you wherever you are. Think about an emergency at home with your spouse, kids or neighbors. What about the park during sporting events or travelling on the transit system to and from work? As a Link to Life™ you are the first responder and bring incredible value to everyone you cross paths with.
Firefighter and paramedic response times in many cities are fast, but not fast enough in some emergencies. Being the first one to assess and assist someone in dire need can make the diRerence between life and death. When someone stops breathing brain death begins in only four minutes and most EMS teams will not be on scene for at least 6 to 12 minutes later. Your fast action can sustain a life- threatening injury until the professionals arrive.
A simple act of bringing an Automated External Defibrillator AED to the scene could provide a critical adjunct to CPR and convert an unhealthy heart rhythm to a normal one before EMS arrives.
Some people have been misinformed about legal concerns when helping strangers or colleagues, and the good news is we are protected under law when oRering first-aid assistance to another person provided we act reasonable. A conscious person can refuse our help, but we can still call 911 and oRer reassurance until professionals arrive on the scene.
You truly can be a hero when an emergency strikes by investing a few hours in a Link to Life™ training seminar.
